Is Yoga Satanic?

https://i2.wp.com/www.thaiguidetochiangmai.com/wp-content/gallery/schools-classes/yoga-art.jpg

Recently upon checking my regular sources of gathering information that I do from time to time, when I have time, I came across an article mentioning that yoga leads to Satanism. I already knew that I agreed with the title, however, I wanted the evidence of such while looking at what God’s Word says about it.

Alright, so let’s just jump in and begin the study.

Many people claim that yoga is just a physical exercise for the body. I will agree that yoga does exercise the body but that is just scratching the service of things.

Here are three definitions of yoga[1]:

  1. a school of Hindu philosophy advocating and prescribing a course of physical and mental disciplines for attaining liberation from the material world and union of the self with the Supreme Being or ultimate principle.
  2. any of the methods or disciplines prescribed, especially a series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve control of the body and mind, tranquillity, etc.
  3. union of the self with the Supreme Being or ultimate principle.

Already just from these definitions we can see some things to take note of. Firstly, it is a Hindu philosophy of physical and mental disciplines to disconnect oneself from the material world and connect with something called the “Supreme Being”. This wording reminds me of similarities to the Masonic deity God the Architect or Gnosticism along with the achievement of being “Illuminated.” The second definition simply states it as postures and breathing exercises to achieve control over the body and mind. Lastly, the third reinstates that “Supreme Being” connection.

In etymology, the word yoga derived from 1820 Hindi means a literal union or yoking with this “Supreme Being/Spirit.” One who practices yoga is called a yogi.[2]

Yoga contains many types, however, the thing to remember is they are all still a form of yoga.

Here is a small list of the types of yoga I was able to find [3]:

  • Anusara
  • Ashtanga
  • Bikram
  • Hatha
  • Iyengar
  • Jivamukti
  • Kripalu
  • Kundalini
  • Power
  • Prenatal
  • Restorative
  • Sivananda
  • Viniyoga
  • Yin

Below are some images provided from several yoga types:

Kundalini and 7 Chakras

This is where things starts to become more obvious. Granted these images are only pulled from three types of yoga, I will cover the rest, soon. The first image is pulled from the anusara yoga depicting seven loops within a human being. These loops are, according to the yogi, “refined currents of energy flow in the body which are initiated by the flow of Muscular and Organic Energy. These more advanced energetic actions serve as the fine tuning dials for increased alignment in order to optimize the flow of energy within the body.” [4]

The second image, should be quite clear for Christians. You have three eyes with a serpent flowing through the third eye. So what exactly is this third eye about? This third eye is said to be a mystical/esoteric representation of an invisible eye providing insight beyond the normal abilities of a human. It is also stated that this is connected to the pineal gland inside the brain symbolizing a gateway for inner realms and a higher consciousness. The third eye is even mentioned as being opened once achieving enlightenment.[5]

Ironically, the pineal glad produces melatonin when the gland is stimulated by the absence of light; darkness. The production of melatonin hits peak production during the night; also darkness.[6] Now is that not interesting or what?

Alright, let me move on to kundalini. From another study I have been doing, this form of yoga is packed full of esoteric stuff. Haven’t you heard this word before? Many may have not, so for those the word esoteric is defined as something private, secret, or confidential and only meant for a very small select few.[7] Just from looking at the last image, one can see that kundalini contains seven chakras, the third eye, and spiralling serpents/dragons.

Chakra is similar to the seven loops found in anusara. The word is defined as representing the seven major energy centres in the body.[8] Also the etymology of the word originates around 1888, obviously in connection with yoga, is from Sanskrit (an ancient Indic language from India) “cankra” meaning circle or wheel.[9]

The 7 Chakras

Now, this is as far as I will dig in to this yoga. The picture above, displays seven symbols. I will not focus on them all but we can see there is some symbolism going on. Two symbols I will bring out is the inverted triangle of art and the hexagram.

The triangle of art, pictured above, is used in Solomonic ritual magic where the triangle represents the protected space outside of the magic circle. For summoning demons/spirits, this protected space would be likely to appear.[10]

Next, the hexagram, equally represented in Hindu along with ritual magic. where a myth states that Solomon had a ring with the symbol on it that he used to control demons and used them to build his buildings.[11]

Just these two symbols show a deeper connection relating to demonic activity. So what about those contorted positions they put themselves into? Some of the more known positions may be “downward facing dog” or “warrior” but what do they really mean? According to Robert Butera he mentions that with animal poses it helps people to connect to powerful aspects of the soul. Nature poses, helps to observe one’s own reflections. He also states that it helps to imagine being like that object.[12] If you look back at the etymology of yoga it is being described as a union or yoking. In other words these positions are individual forms of meditation of “becoming one with” that object.

Where It Counts

Here is where we go to God’s Word and see what He says about yoga. If we go back to the beginning and look at the definition that describes yoga as types of disciplines to eventually achieve union with a supreme being. Before going to the bible, let’s make clear understanding what this is actually saying. Discipline is a training activity/exercise to improve skills. Union is obviously becoming one with another object, in this case a deity called the Supreme Being. Does this concept sound familiar? Let’s go to Genesis:

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. [Gen. 3:4-5 KJV]

In this part of Genesis, is where Satan is tempting Eve with a lie and a false promise of becoming as a god by doing something God Himself told her not to partake of from the beginning. Also, remember what else God said about these other gods:

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, [Exo. 20:3-5 KJV]

This set of scripture is from the Ten Commandments. It says we should not have any other gods and not only that but not to make or carve any image of anything and they should not be bowed to or served. This commandment is not just for physical idols but anything that would get placed above him. One may say that, “I do not put yoga above God, so I am ok.” Wrong. One cannot serve two masters.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. [Matt. 6:21-24 KJV]

Yoga also seems to be really involved in focusing on energies of the body or self elevation. Let’s look at the amazing book of Proverbs:

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. [Prov. 3:5-8 KJV]

These set of verses makes it pretty obvious here that we should not rely on ourselves and our own knowledge but focus on Him in ALL things we do. The last verse even states health shall come from it.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. [John 15:5-6 KJV]

After looking at the symbolism stuck into the different “energies” of this “chakra,” a hidden satanic origin is actually present. However, also take note of the word “energies,” what are some of the closest related synonyms for this word? Here is a list along with brief definitions:

  • efficiency – ability to accomplish something with least time and effort
  • intensity – great energy, strength, or concentration
  • power – possession of control
  • spirit – a supernatural being, especially one inhabiting a place; angel/demon
  • stamina – power to endure something
  • strength – moral power, firmness, effective force
  • toughness – not easily influence, hardened
  • vitality – power to live or grow

If you look at all these words having the ability of falling into a demonic category they all pretty much fit; some more evident than others. These energies originating from fleshly locations is interesting as well.

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. [Rom. 8:5-8 KJV]

Okay, let me bring the rest of the loose ends together. We should already be able to tell that yoga focuses a lot on the energies of the flesh. Carnally, in Greek being the word “sarx,” means fleshly and also the animal nature of cravings which incite to sin. So, now let me bring back those symbols again. Remember both were explained to have function with ritual magic.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. [Gal. 5:19-21 KJV]

This last set of verses should make it completely clear and tie all the loose ends nicely. The works of the flesh, or sinful actions, is clear that witchcraft is sinful and those who participate shall not inherit the kingdom of God. I am not saying it, I am repeating what is clearly laid before me from God’s Word. God bless!
